GBA Proposes New Road Alongside Hebbal Lake in Bengaluru
· India · The Hindu, Deccan Herald
The Greater Bengaluru Authority has published a draft road circulation plan for the Greater Bengaluru Local Planning Area, proposing a 12-metre road alongside Hebbal Lake in north Bengaluru. The proposed route passes through the lake bund area and follows the stormwater drain network connecting Hebbal Lake to Nagawara Lake. Officials state the exercise aims to expand the road network and improve traffic flow by creating a link between Thanisandra and Hebbal. However, experts and activists warn that clearing green spaces around the waterbody will cause massive biodiversity loss and alter the locality's character. The GBA has invited objections and suggestions from the public regarding the draft plan.
Why it matters
North Bengaluru residents face potential changes to local green spaces and traffic connectivity as authorities weigh public feedback on the controversial lake bund road project.
