General Medicine Tops NEET-PG 2026 Round 1 Allotments in New Delhi
· India · Times of India, Indian Express
General medicine secured 51 of the first 100 seat allotments in the Round 1 counselling for NEET-PG 2026, leading all medical specialties in New Delhi. According to Medical Counselling Committee data reported by Times of India, radiodiagnosis followed with 28 allotments among the top entries. Dermatology ranked third with six allotments, while paediatrics and general surgery recorded three allotments each. Medical experts attribute these selections to distinct career paths, noting that radiology offers early earning potential and better work-life balance, whereas general medicine appeals to those pursuing complex clinical challenges and super-specialisation. Prof Neeraj Nischal of AIIMS noted that general medicine provides extensive professional growth despite a longer financial timeline.
Why it matters
The NEET-PG choice trends reveal shifting career priorities among young doctors in India, balancing immediate earning potential in specialties like radiology against long-term clinical scope in general medicine.
