Ghulam Nabi Azad Rejects Farooq Abdullah's Claim That Pakistan Protects J&K
· India · India Today, NDTV
Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on Sunday dismissed National Conference president Farooq Abdullah's assertion that Pakistan's international advocacy shields the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Azad posted on X that Pakistan is the enemy of India and the people of the Union Territory, citing protests in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir for rights. He credited successive central governments from Jawaharlal Nehru to Narendra Modi for J&K's development since 1947. Abdullah had argued a day earlier at a Baramulla convention that Pakistan's repeated raising of the Kashmir issue abroad was protecting the region and questioned the Centre's intentions. The BJP sharply criticised Abdullah, accusing him of legitimising Pakistan's position and demanding action against him.
Why it matters
The exchange sharpens the political divide in Jammu and Kashmir over Pakistan's role and the Centre's policies, influencing the narrative ahead of future elections in the Union Territory.
