Girl Dies After Jumping From School Roof in Faridabad

· India · Hindustan Times, Indian Express

A 16-year-old Class 11 student died on Tuesday after jumping from the third-floor terrace of Navodaya Vidya Niketan Senior Secondary School on Dabua-Gazipur Road in Faridabad. Her family alleged that she took the step after being punished by a teacher and made to stand in the sun for four hours due to a classroom ruckus. School staff rushed her to Badshah Khan Civil Hospital after she was first taken to a nearby private hospital, but she was declared dead upon arrival. School principal RK Sharma denied the punishment allegation, stating that she had gone to the bathroom accompanied by a staff member before going to the terrace. Faridabad police stated that the allegations are being verified through CCTV footage and staff questioning pending a formal complaint from the father.

Why it matters

The incident has triggered intense scrutiny over student disciplinary practices in schools and prompted police investigations into the school administration's handling of student welfare.
