Goa electoral officers' emails ignored as 97 voters remain missing from final roll

Goa's Chief Electoral Officer sent eight emails in seven days to the Election Commission of India regarding 97 eligible voters wrongly omitted from the final electoral roll. The voters were verified by state Electoral Registration Officers under a Supreme Court-directed process but could not be reinstated due to ECINet software restrictions controlled from Delhi. Despite the final roll being published on February 21, all 97 names remained missing as of September 20. The issue highlights a conflict between state-level electoral officers and the central Election Commission over control of voter list updates. Two Election Commissioners had previously objected 14 times in 10 months to centralisation of ECINet and sidelining state officials.
