Godavari Region Prepares for Local Body Polls Amid Cyclone Arnab Recovery

Thirteen municipalities and one Nagar Panchayat in the Godavari region of Andhra Pradesh are set to hold local body elections on Sunday. Polling will take place across constituencies represented by key ministers, including six municipalities in Kakinada district under Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan and three in East Godavari under Tourism Minister Kandula Durgesh. However, elections in Kakinada and Rajamahendravaram municipal corporations remain stalled due to an ongoing legal battle over the merger of Gram Panchayats. Security has been intensified across the 14 urban local bodies, with police deploying drones and surveillance tools following infrastructure damage from Cyclone Arnab, which made landfall between Narsapuram and Amalapuram on October 28.
