Google Announces €13 Billion Investment in Finland for AI Infrastructure

Google has announced a €13bn investment in Finland to expand its artificial intelligence infrastructure, marking the company's largest single investment in Europe. As part of the package, Google signed a 22-year contract with Finnish utility Fortum to buy up to 50% of the electricity output from the Loviisa nuclear power plant. The funds will build three new data centres in Kajaani, Muhos and Vaala, while expanding an existing facility in Hamina. Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo stated that the project will support over 37,000 construction jobs and boost national GDP by €3.6bn annually. The infrastructure will power Google services including Search, Maps, YouTube and the Gemini AI chatbot.
