· Technology · Engadget, Gadgets360
Google has rolled out new built-in theft protection tools for Android devices running Android 10 or newer through Google Play Services. The suite includes a motion-sensing Theft Detection Lock that automatically secures the screen if the phone is snatched quickly. An Offline Device Lock feature triggers a countdown and locks the screen if a user attempts to disable connectivity by turning on Airplane Mode or removing the SIM card. Users can also set up a Remote Lock function by visiting android.com/lock from any browser. The settings can be accessed directly through the device settings menu under security and privacy options.
Why it matters
Android users gain proactive security measures that prevent data theft immediately when a device is snatched or disconnected.
