Google Launches AI-Powered Offline Meeting Note-Taker
· Technology · TechCrunch
Google has released 'Google AI Edge Foresight', a new Mac app that works offline to transcribe and summarize meetings. The app uses the on-device EmbeddingGemma 2 model with 740 million parameters to capture notes across apps, including in-person meetings. Similar to the AI note-taker Granola, it features a split-screen view for manual and AI-generated notes, plus a chat function with a Gemma 4-powered assistant. Users can upload documents like PDFs and Google Docs to build a knowledge base for real-time answers. The app is optimized for Apple Silicon and does not require an internet connection. The move follows Google's earlier offline dictation tool and enters a competitive space with recent entries from Wispr and Calendly.
Why it matters
This tool caters to professionals needing reliable meeting documentation without internet access, enhancing productivity in remote or travel scenarios. It also showcases Google's advancing local AI capabilities, potentially reducing reliance on cloud services.
