Google Launches Five Googlebooks Starting at $899

Google has launched its Googlebook platform, combining ChromeOS and Android in one desktop operating system. Five launch laptops from Acer, Lenovo and other makers will ship in the US from October 4. They come with at least 16GB of RAM, 256GB of SSD storage and battery life rated at 14 hours or more. Acer's $899 Googlebook 14 is the cheapest model and the only convertible laptop, with a 14-inch 2.8K OLED touchscreen and Intel Core Ultra 5 or 7 Panther Lake processors. Lenovo's model has a 16-inch 3K 120Hz touchscreen, a 75Wh battery and an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor, while the ASUS Googlebook 14 shares the Acer model's base 16GB/256GB configuration. All five laptops have touchscreens, backlit keyboards, fingerprint scanners, Glowbar lighting and NPUs rated above 40 TOPS.
Why it matters
Googlebook buyers will gain integrated Android phone features, Gemini tools and longer battery ratings, but launch prices start at $899 and the machines are available only in the US from October 4.
