Google Launches Global SynthID Detector Portal For AI Content
· Technology · Android Authority, MacRumors, Gadgets360
Google has opened its SynthID Detector portal to all users globally, allowing anyone to verify if a photo, video, or audio file was generated or edited using AI. The tool, accessible at synthid.com, can identify AI watermarks from Google, OpenAI, NVIDIA, and Kakao, with support for Apple watermarks expected soon. Users must sign in with a Google, Apple, or OpenAI account to scan media files for these digital signatures. While the portal provides a way to identify AI-generated content, it currently does not support anonymous verification or email-based logins. This release follows a limited testing period that lasted over a year.
Why it matters
This tool provides a standardized way for users to verify the authenticity of digital media, helping to combat the spread of AI-generated misinformation. It forces greater transparency from major tech companies by allowing cross-platform detection of AI watermarks.
