Google launches Universal Cart shopping tool in the US
· Technology · TechCrunch
Google on Thursday said Universal Cart is now available to U.S. users. The tool lets users collect and monitor products they find across Search and in the Gemini app, acting as a central hub for browsing and tracking potential purchases. It can collect items from multiple retailers and send notifications when a saved product's price drops or when an out-of-stock item becomes available again. The tool is tied to Google's Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), an open standard designed to help AI agents and retailers work together across the shopping journey, including checkout. Google said it can take credit card perks into account when helping users choose how to pay and surface relevant promo codes.
Why it matters
U.S. shoppers can now manage products across multiple retailers in one place, with automatic price-drop and availability notifications reducing the need to hunt for deals manually. The tool integrates with Google's AI shopping features and Universal Commerce Protocol, signaling a shift toward AI-assisted, centralized online shopping.
