Google Releases Gemini 3.8 Flash With Improved Reasoning

· Technology · Ars Technica, Fortune

Google has announced the release of Gemini 3.8 Flash, marking its third Flash model rollout in six weeks. The new release comes in two variants, including a standard version intended for agentic tasks and software development, and Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber, which is tuned for vulnerability detection. Google is offering introductory API pricing through the end of the year at $0.75 per million input tokens and $3.75 per million output tokens. Benchmark numbers show marginal improvements over the 3.7 version, with larger gains in coding evaluations that place it at the top of the DeepSWE leaderboard. While it also features an improvement in agentic computer use on the OSWorld-2.0 test, it remains behind the market leader Claude Opus.

Why it matters

Software developers and enterprise users get access to higher-performing reasoning and coding models at lower introductory API rates.
