Google Restricts Newer Gemini Models for Free and AI Plus Users from October 9
· Technology · Android Authority, Gadgets360
Starting October 9, Google will limit access to newer Gemini models for free and AI Plus subscribers. Free users will only be able to access Gemini 3.5-Flash-Lite, while AI Plus subscribers will lose access to Gemini 3.1 Pro and newer reasoning models. Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers will retain their current access, including the Deep Thinking option. The changes were outlined in an updated Google support page highlighted by 9to5Google. Users will also be able to select low, medium, or high effort levels for models, though higher effort settings will consume usage limits more quickly.
Why it matters
Free and AI Plus subscribers will lose access to Gemini’s most advanced models, affecting their ability to use cutting-edge AI features. This may push users toward higher-priced tiers or alternative AI services for improved performance.
