Google to Discontinue Safety Signal Feature for Pixel Watches
· Technology · Engadget, Android Authority
Google will end support for its Safety Signal feature on the Pixel Watch 2 and Pixel Watch 3 by December 12, 2026. This feature provided emergency SOS, fall detection, and contact calling capabilities to LTE-enabled watches without requiring a separate wireless plan. Users will receive notifications regarding the transition period, which lasts 30 days from the date of the alert. The safety tools will remain accessible if the devices are connected to a WiFi network, paired to a smartphone via Bluetooth, or linked to an active cellular carrier line. The company did not specify the reason for the discontinuation.
Why it matters
Users of LTE-enabled Pixel Watch models will lose a key standalone safety feature, necessitating an active cellular subscription or WiFi connection to maintain emergency functionality.
