Google has introduced new performance thresholds and code optimization requirements for Android apps to address industry-wide memory chip shortages caused by the AI data center boom. The mobile industry faces hardware supply constraints that alter device memory availability and impact consumer experience, according to the tech giant. Developers must meet these new thresholds for dynamic memory usage, bitmap usage, and code optimization by February 2027. Google is rolling out tools to alert developers when apps exceed memory limits, with a Memory Limiter feature arriving later in the year. Additionally, the company will require all Play Store apps to implement the Zero Tap Sign-In requirement during device migrations using the Android Restore Credentials API by April 2027.
