Government Appoints Mandeep K Bhandari as New CBSE Chairperson

The Union government has appointed senior bureaucrat Mandeep K Bhandari as the new chairperson of the Central Board of Secondary Education. Bhandari, a 2001-batch IAS officer of the AGMUT cadre, currently serves as the principal secretary to the Jammu & Kashmir lieutenant governor. The appointment follows the removal of former CBSE chairperson Rahul Singh and secretary Himanshu Gupta on June 2 over procurement concerns regarding the digital evaluation system. The previous leadership change came months after the rollout of On-Screen Marking-based evaluation triggered complaints regarding answer-sheet mix-ups, portal glitches, and payment failures. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved Bhandari's posting alongside nine other bureaucratic transfers.
