Government Mandates BIS Certification for Smartphone Screen Protectors

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has brought smartphone screen protectors under the mandatory Bureau of Indian Standards registration framework. Under a notification issued on September 21, 2026, all manufacturers and importers in India must ensure their screen protectors comply with the IS 19348:2025 standard starting April 1, 2027. The regulation sets strict quality and testing benchmarks covering glass strength, light transmission, surface defects, anti-shatter films, and oleophobic coatings. Additionally, packaging must display key details including the manufacturer name, batch number, and thickness. The six-month transition period aims to curb low-quality screen guards flooding the market and improve consumer protection.
