Government Standardises Names of 28 Places and Features in Ladakh

The Government of India has formally identified 28 geographical features and locations in Ladakh with standardised names on the official Survey of India map in consultation with the Union Territory administration. The notification covers 11 peaks, five mountains, six land areas, two glaciers, two passes, one valley, one river, one lake, and one water body. Among the named peaks are Atisha Giri, Kanishka Peak, Martand Giri, Zorawar Peak, and Rinchen Zangpo. The government stated the move aims to ensure accurate recognition and build public awareness. This notification follows a similar standardisation exercise for places in Arunachal Pradesh. The updated map is available for viewing on the Survey of India website.
