Govt Mandates Caller ID Display on Mobile Phones from November 1
· Technology · India Today, Hindustan Times
The Government of India has directed telecom service providers to introduce the Calling Name Presentation system from November 1, 2026. The DoT order mandates that incoming calls on 4G and 5G networks display both the caller's number and name by default. For domestic calls where the number is not saved in contacts, the system will pull the subscriber name from the originating operator database. International calls will display the text International Call on the screen. Telecom operators are required to build and maintain database systems mapping subscriber names to their numbers to support the rollout.
Why it matters
Mobile users across India will gain verified caller identification on incoming calls, helping curb spam and fraudulent calls.
