Gujarat Giants secured wicketkeeper-batter G Kamalini for Rs 40 lakh at the WPL 2027 auction in Kochi on Wednesday. The Giants opened bidding at the base price and acquired her without rival bids, landing their target after Mumbai Indians released her ahead of the season. Kamalini, 18, spent the past two seasons with Mumbai Indians, where she won the WPL title in 2025. In 10 WPL innings, she scored 104 runs at an average of just over 15, with a highest score of 32. Gujarat Giants will be pleased to have secured a young wicketkeeping option without entering a bidding war. Delhi Capitals and UP Warriorz also made significant signings on the same day, with Sophie Molineux going to UP Warriorz for Rs 1.10 crore.
Why it matters
Gujarat Giants secured a young wicketkeeping-batter at the base price, strengthening their squad depth ahead of WPL 2027 while avoiding a costly bidding war. Kamalini's experience with the defending champions Mumbai Indians could provide valuable depth for the Giants' campaign.
