Gujarat govt allots disputed VMC plot to Yusuf Pathan after TMC exit
· Sports · Times of India, NDTV, India Today
The Gujarat government approved the allotment of a 978 sqm Vadodara Municipal Corporation plot in Tandalja area to former India cricketer and ex-TMC MP Yusuf Pathan, with 500 sqm gifted for residential use and the remaining 478 sq metres transferred at 55% of assessed valuation. The civic body received the government's resolution at the end of August, following Pathan's withdrawal of a High Court appeal against the plot's rejection. The land, valued at Rs 20.53 crore based on Rs 2.10 lakh per sq m, was originally sought by Pathan in 2012 on security grounds as an international cricketer. The resolution states the arrangement will not set a precedent and requires revenue department allotment of VMC land equivalent in value.
Why it matters
The decision directly benefits Yusuf Pathan with residential land worth Rs 20.53 crore at significantly concessional rates, while the provision for equivalent VMC land allotment impacts municipal revenue and future land allocation policies.
