Gujarat High Court Rejects Kejriwal Plea in Modi Degree Case

The Gujarat High Court dismissed an appeal filed by AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal challenging a ₹25,000 cost imposed on him in the Prime Minister Narendra Modi degree disclosure case. A division bench comprising Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal and Justice DN Ray stated that public officeholders cannot use statutory proceedings for political interests. Kejriwal had appealed a March 2023 order by a single judge who quashed a 2016 CIC direction requiring Gujarat University to provide information regarding Modi's educational qualifications. The Gujarat University had initially approached the High Court to challenge the CIC directive after Kejriwal wrote a letter seeking public disclosure of the credentials. The court upheld the previous judgment and dismissed the civil application for a stay.
