Gujarat Official Suspended After Streetlights Fail on PM's Route
· India · Indian Express, LiveMint
Mahesh Vasava, a clerk in the lighting department of Dabhoi Municipality, has been suspended for six days following reports that 12 streetlights were non-functional on a road used by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The PM and other dignitaries travelled by road from the Statue of Unity to Vadodara airport on October 31 after weather conditions prevented helicopter travel. Chief Officer Viraj Shah issued the suspension under the Gujarat Municipalities Act, 1963, citing negligence in maintaining streetlights despite prior instructions. Vasava is required to provide an explanation for the failure at the end of his suspension.
Why it matters
The suspension underscores the strict administrative accountability enforced for VIP security and infrastructure maintenance during high-profile state visits.
