Gym owner Deepak Kumar, who identifies as Mohammad Deepak, was granted bail by a sub-divisional magistrate court in Kotdwar after being preventively detained over an alleged altercation with a local trader. Pauri Garhwal police detained Deepak under Section 170 of the BNSS following a dispute with trader Sanjeev Tank concerning a Facebook post about a mosque demolition in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. Police registered an FIR against Deepak under relevant sections of the BNS for criminal intimidation and abusive language. The incident prompted local traders to stage a sit-in protest at the Kotwali police station demanding strict action. Police deployed additional personnel in Kotdwar to monitor law and order.
