H.K. Patil Threatens Assembly Resignation Over Drought Status For Gadag

Gadag MLA H.K. Patil has announced that he will resign from the Legislative Assembly if Gadag taluk is not officially declared drought-hit by October 10. Speaking at a farmers' protest in Mulgund, Gadag district, the former Minister questioned why the taluk was omitted from the state list despite recording a 49% rainfall deficit. Farmers expressed outrage by taking out a procession and blocking the Gadag-Lakshmeshwar State Highway. As many as 27 of the 73 taluks in North Karnataka have been excluded from the current list of drought-affected areas. Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar previously visited the district to assess crop damage following reports from local officials.
