Hampshire and Scotland bowler Brad Wheal retires due to injuries
· Sports · BBC Sport, NDTV Sports
Brad Wheal, 30, has retired from professional cricket after recurring injuries ended his career. The seamer played for Hampshire and Scotland, taking 51 wickets in 44 international appearances over a decade. He featured in four T20 World Cups, most recently in India earlier in 2026. Wheal helped Hampshire win the One Day Cup in 2018 and the T20 Blast in 2022. He cited four stress fractures in his back and recent knee surgery as reasons his body could no longer cope with fast bowling demands.
Why it matters
Wheal's retirement removes an experienced seam bowler from Hampshire's squad and Scotland's international setup. His absence may affect team bowling depth in upcoming domestic and international fixtures.
