A hand grenade explosion near a school in the Dasht-e-Barchi neighbourhood of Kabul injured approximately 50 children on Monday afternoon. Kabul police spokesman Khalid Zadran confirmed that multiple children were wounded and stated that an investigation was underway without providing further details. The blast occurred around 4:30 PM local time near the Shama-e Hidayat school, with injured students subsequently transported to a nearby hospital. UN special rapporteur on Afghanistan Richard Bennett strongly condemned the attack, calling for an independent investigation to hold those responsible accountable. The attack targeted a district predominantly inhabited by Afghanistan's Hazara minority, a community that has faced repeated violence from extremist groups such as ISIS-K.
