Harshit Rana ruled out as Yash Thakur named replacement for Afg T20Is, Asian Games

· Sports · Times of India, Cricbuzz, ESPNCricinfo

India fast bowler Harshit Rana has been ruled out of the upcoming T20I series against Afghanistan and the 2026 Asian Games after sustaining a rectus femoris strain. The injury occurred while he was bowling during a match simulation on September 7 at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, following a previous recovery from surgery. Vidarbha pacer Yash Thakur has been named as Rana's replacement across both squads. Rana's absence adds to a prolonged injury layoff that previously sidelined him during the T20 World Cup and the Indian Premier League. India is scheduled to play a three-match T20I series against Afghanistan in Delhi on September 13, 15, and 17.

Why it matters

Rana's continuous injury setbacks weaken India's pace attack alongside Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh, while offering Vidarbha pacer Yash Thakur another opportunity to cement his place in the limited-overs squad.
