Harwinder Kumar Deported From UAE, Arrested by NIA in Vikas Prabhakar Murder Case
· India · Hindustan Times, NDTV
Harwinder Kumar, an operative linked to Babbar Khalsa International, was deported from the UAE and arrested by the National Investigation Agency in connection with the killing of Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Vikas Prabhakar. Prabhakar was shot dead by terrorists belonging to a BKI module inside his confectionery shop at Nangal in Punjab's Roopnagar district on April 13, 2024. The ministry of home affairs stated that Kumar, also known as Sonu Barnala, provided logistical support, financing, and arranged weapons for the shooters at the behest of Pakistan-based BKI chief Wadhawa Singh. An Interpol red notice was issued against Kumar on April 17, 2024, following which Indian authorities pursued his deportation through diplomatic channels. Investigators established that the conspiracy was hatched by Germany-based BKI operatives Harjit Singh and Kulbeer Singh, with Kumar acting as a crucial recruiter and handler from abroad.
Why it matters
The deportation highlights intensified cross-border cooperation under India's counter-terrorism strategy to dismantle international terror modules and bring fugitive suspects to justice.
