Haryana Electricity Workers' Strike Plunges Gurugram and Faridabad Into Darkness
· India · LiveMint, Hindustan Times, NDTV
Parts of Gurugram, Faridabad, and Nuh districts faced severe power and water disruptions as Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam employees launched a strike on Wednesday night. Protesters are demonstrating against the Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission's decision to grant Eleven Power a 25-year parallel distribution licence in Gurugram and Nuh. Gurugram received over 3,000 electricity-related complaints within the first 12 hours of the demonstration, which is scheduled to run until October 25. Industrial operations in manufacturing hubs such as Kadipur, Daulatabad, and Sector 37 came to a halt as prolonged outages disabled machinery. Residents in residential colonies were forced to rely on backup generators and stored water tanks as basic utility supplies failed.
Why it matters
The industrial paralysis and residential distress highlight the acute vulnerability of urban NCR infrastructure to labor strikes over private utility licensing.
