The Haryana Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognisance of recurring waterlogging and infrastructure failures in Gurugram following heavy rainfall last month. A three-member panel led by Chairperson Lalit Batra issued a 17-page order calling for a comprehensive city-wide infrastructure audit and an integrated drainage revamp plan. The Commission stated that existing civic facilities must be upgraded to match the scale, population density, and economic activity of the city. The order specifically mandates measures to ensure the safety of schoolchildren, who have previously been left stranded in buses during extreme weather. The panel further requested a conjoint compliance report from relevant government agencies to address these constitutional and civic planning deficiencies.
