Heavy Monsoon Rains Disrupt Daily Life Across Delhi-NCR
· India · Indian Express, Times of India, Zee News
Heavy rainfall on Monday caused widespread waterlogging and traffic congestion across Delhi-NCR, forcing the closure of a primary school in Deoli. At the Municipal Corporation of Delhi school, classes were cancelled after the campus grounds became submerged in muddy water. Local residents in Sangam Vihar, Durga Vihar, and Deoli reported severe flooding in narrow streets and residential basements. The Safdarjung base station recorded 34.6 mm of rainfall between 8:30 am and 8:30 pm, while Janakpuri and Ayanagar saw higher totals of 70 mm and 66 mm respectively. A school official attributed the recurring flooding to maintenance issues within the institution's rainwater harvesting system.
Why it matters
The persistent waterlogging disrupts essential services like education and transport, highlighting ongoing infrastructure and drainage maintenance failures in Delhi's residential belts.
