Heavy Rains Kill 5 and Damage 100 Houses in Uttar Pradesh

Five people died in Uttar Pradesh following heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds that damaged over 100 houses across the state. Three family members were killed in Lakhimpur Kheri after a mud wall collapsed, while separate incidents in Amethi and Barabanki resulted in two additional fatalities. The India Meteorological Department reported that 63 districts recorded above-normal rainfall, with some areas facing a moderate risk of flash floods. The weather system, a depression moving from Madhya Pradesh, is expected to continue causing heavy to very heavy rainfall in eastern and central Uttar Pradesh through Sunday. Officials noted that standing crops in rural areas also sustained significant damage due to the severe weather.
