· World · Hindustan Times, Indian Express, LiveMint

A helicopter operated by Trans Bharat Aviation Pvt Ltd crashed on Friday in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district while returning from Badrinath to Dehradun amid adverse weather conditions. The aircraft, carrying pilot Captain Himanshu and five passengers identified as Prathapa, Arun, Shankar Gowda, Sudheer K, and HS Natraja, lost communication and its tracking system stopped working while flying over the Joshimath valley. Search and rescue operations are underway involving the Indian Army, Chamoli district administration, and the State Disaster Response Force, with the entire Trans Bharat Aviation fleet grounded as a precaution. The helicopter had taken off from Badrinath at around 1.14pm for Sahastradhara in Dehradun before going missing.

Why it matters

The crash has triggered an urgent rescue operation for six people, including the pilot and five passengers, in a remote Himalayan valley, straining state and military resources and raising concerns about aviation safety in adverse weather. Families of those on board and the civil aviation sector are directly affected as investigations begin into the cause of the communication and tracking failure.
