Hillary Clinton Says India and China Can Help Resolve West Asia Conflict
· World · The Hindu, Hindustan Times
Former United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton stated that India and China could help resolve the ongoing West Asia conflict by using their diplomatic leverage with Tehran. Speaking in a C-SPAN interview, Ms. Clinton noted that both nations are among the largest buyers of oil and gas from Iran. The conflict escalated on February 28 after a joint US-Israeli attack on Iran triggered retaliatory strikes and choked the Strait of Hormuz. While the US and Iran signed an interim peace agreement in June, it collapsed following fresh strikes. Meanwhile, countries including Pakistan, Oman, and Qatar are attempting to mediate between Washington and Tehran.
Why it matters
Energy security across Asia depends heavily on stable shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, making diplomatic intervention by major importers critical to calming regional hostilities.
