· India · Indian Express, LiveMint
Himanshu Bhau, originally from Rohtak in Haryana, was detained by US law enforcement in Las Vegas on Thursday following a tip from Indian agencies. The alleged gangster had his first brush with the law at age 15 in 2018 over a liquor-trade dispute in his native village Ritoli. He escaped from a juvenile correctional facility in Hisar in 2020 along with 19 other inmates, two of whom, including Himanshu, remained at large. Authorities in India and the US are coordinating his deportation after he faced at least 16 cases of murder or attempted murder while absconding.
Why it matters
His capture ends a years-long manhunt for a high-profile fugitive with a long list of violent cases, demonstrating enhanced India-US security cooperation in tracking trans-border criminals.
