Himanshu Bhau arrested in US, extradition process begins
· India · Indian Express, India Today, LiveMint
Gangster Himanshu Bhau was arrested by US law enforcement agencies after India's Central agencies alerted them to his location in Las Vegas. Another fugitive, Neeraj Faridpuria, was also apprehended after removing his ankle bracelet following bail this year. The NIA confirmed an Interpol red notice had been issued against Himanshu, who had fled India using forged documents in August 2022. Technical surveillance and source-based information tracked his coordinates, which were shared with US authorities leading to his arrest on Thursday evening. A special team of senior officers is likely to visit the US to complete document work for his deportation. Himanshu, 23, alias Kunal, is a native of Ritoli village in Rohtak and faces over 30 criminal cases including at least 16 for murder and attempt to murder.
Why it matters
The arrest and extradition efforts bring key fugitives involved in organised crime and murder cases across Delhi, Haryana and Punjab back into Indian custody, disrupting transnational gang operations. It reinforces India's capacity to coordinate with foreign law enforcement for justice in high-profile criminal matters.
