Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan chaired a review meeting with Himalayan States and Union Territories in New Delhi on September 3, 2026, to assess preparedness for Glacial Lake Outburst Floods and snow avalanches. Mohan stressed the need to move beyond a response-oriented approach toward preventive mitigation, continuous surveillance of vulnerable glacial lakes, and stronger early warning systems. Officials discussed identifying high-risk zones, mapping potential flow paths, and improving last-mile communication.
