Honda UC3 Electric Scooter Patented in India

Honda has patented its UC3 electric scooter in India, sparking speculation about a possible launch in the world's largest two-wheeler market. The UC3 is already on sale in Thailand at THB 142,600 (roughly ₹4.1 lakh) before subsidies and in Vietnam, where CKD operations are expected to begin soon. Powered by a 3.2 kWh fixed LFP battery — Honda's first electric scooter with LFP chemistry — the UC3 delivers a claimed range of 122 km, a top speed of 80 km/h, and 160cc-equivalent performance from an 8 bhp motor. Features include a 5-inch TFT display with Honda RoadSync connectivity, traction control, three riding modes, adaptive regeneration, reverse assist, 26-litre underseat storage, and a Type-C charging port. Honda files several scooter and motorcycle patents in India as IP protection exercises, and a launch has not been confirmed.
Why it matters
An India launch of the UC3 would give Honda a fixed-battery alternative to the swappable Activa e and put pressure on rivals like Ola Electric, TVS iQube and Bajaj Chetak in the premium electric scooter segment, though Honda's history of filing patents without follow-up launches tempers expectations.
