Huawei Launches Mate 90 Series With Homegrown Chip Design

Huawei has unveiled its Mate 90 smartphone series in China, featuring a proprietary Kirin 9050 Pro chip and the HarmonyOS 7 operating system. The company is using a 3D chip-wiring technique called LogicFolding to improve processing speeds despite ongoing US restrictions on advanced semiconductor tools. Huawei consumer business chief Richard Yu stated that advanced chip capacity remains limited within China, affecting both smartphone and AI processor production. The firm did not disclose the manufacturer of the new Kirin chips, though industry observers point to SMIC.
