Unitree Shares surged more than 600% on the first day of trading after the Hangzhou‑based robotics maker raised just over $900 million in its initial public offering. The stock opened at 1,100 yuan, a 629% jump from the 150.80 yuan offering price, before later settling near 900 yuan. The company unveiled its new humanoid robot, “Superman,” on Monday, claiming it can jump two metres high and run at 12.66 m/s. Unitree’s machines are already used by domestic academia and by U.S. tech giants such as Nvidia, Google and Amazon. The company is listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange’s tech‑focused STAR market, which is often compared to Nasdaq. Competitor UBTech has also entered the market with its own humanoid model.
Why it matters
The sharp rise in Unitree’s shares signals strong investor appetite for robotics and AI firms, potentially boosting capital flow into China’s burgeoning tech sector and influencing global competition for advanced robot technology.
