I&B Ministry Notifies New Film Certification Guidelines for CBFC

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has notified revised film certification guidelines for the Central Board of Film Certification in New Delhi. The updated rules retain all provisions of the 1991 version while adding two new mandates. Films depicting narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances must now display a statutory warning reading 'Illicit Narcotics Destroy Health and Guarantees Imprisonment, Say No to Drugs.' The guidelines also incorporate new age-based categorization markers under the Cinematograph Rules, 2024, introducing UA 7+, UA 13+, and UA 16+ certificates. CBFC Chairperson Shashi Shekhar Vempati urged filmmakers to study the framework before submitting applications for certification. Additionally, the board will ensure that anti-social activities, violence, and drinking are not glorified or justified.
