IAF Helicopters and SDRF Teams Deployed as Mandakini River Overflows

Two Indian Air Force helicopters and three State Disaster Response Force teams were deployed on Saturday to rescue people stranded in Chitrakoot. Torrential rains caused the Mandakini river to overflow, flooding parts of the town located on the Madhya Pradesh-Uttar Pradesh border. Satna collector Satish Kumar S confirmed there has been no loss of life, noting that the catchment area received 10 cm of rain in three hours. Officials reported that a dam breach in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh further exacerbated the flooding. While the water level began receding on Saturday night, the India Meteorological Department has forecast continued heavy rainfall for the region through Wednesday.
