ICICI, Axis, and Yes Bank Post Strong Profit Growth in Q2FY27 as Treasury Gains Weigh on HDFC

· Business · LiveMint, Economic Times

ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, and Yes Bank reported double-digit growth in net profit after tax for the second quarter of financial year 2026-27, while HDFC Bank posted modest single-digit growth due to lower treasury gains. HDFC Bank recorded a 4.7% annual jump in standalone net profit to Rs 19,510 crore, weighed down by a 67% decline in treasury trading gains to Rs 780 crore. ICICI Bank registered a 20.1% increase in net profit to Rs 14,843 crore, supported by strong loan growth and lower bad-loan provisions, with net interest income rising 17.7% to Rs 25,339 crore. Axis Bank posted a 38% surge in net profit to Rs 7,003 crore driven by falling provisions and improving asset quality. Meanwhile, IDBI Bank reported a 39% decline in net profit to Rs 2,205 crore due to a high-base effect from a previous one-time gain, even as its underlying profit surged 14%.

Why it matters

The Q2 results show divergent profit trajectories among India's major lenders as private banks balance robust credit growth against volatile treasury returns and provisioning levels.
