ICMR DG Outlines One Health Mission Progress in Letter to MP

ICMR Director General Dr Rajiv Bahl detailed ongoing activities under the National One Health Mission in a letter to Rajya Sabha member Ajeet Gopchade. The mission includes syndromic surveillance, integrated animal-human-wildlife monitoring, and waste-water tracking of 13 priority pathogens across 47 cities, expanding to 75 cities in 2027. Five genomic and metagenomic hubs have been established to enhance detection of novel pathogens. This follows Gopchade's call for a time-bound national biosecurity strategy addressing bioterrorism and emerging diseases. The Ministry of Home Affairs has prepared a draft National Biosecurity Policy in consultation with stakeholders.
