IIT Bombay Student's Parents Seek Arrests Over Caste Allegations

Sahil Wakode's father has demanded the arrest of IIT Bombay Professor Suryanarayana Doolla and Director Shireesh Kedare over alleged caste-based harassment and threats. Sahil, 22, a second-year BTech student in the Department of Energy Science and Engineering, died by suicide in his hostel room on September 18, hours after an examination incident. Ravindra Wakode alleged that Doolla had targeted his son since last year and used caste-based slurs, while Kedare was also named in his demand. The Mumbai Crime Branch is examining CCTV footage from the examination hall, campus and hostel. An FIR naming Doolla includes provisions related to abetment to suicide and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The allegations remain under investigation.
