IIT-Bombay Suicide: Father Threatens Hunger Strike as Institute Forms Panel

Ravindra Wakode, father of deceased second-year BTech student Sahil Wakode, announced he will begin a hunger strike if IIT-Bombay officials named in the case are not arrested. The announcement follows the death of Sahil Wakode, who died by suicide on campus four days prior. In response to the tragedy, IIT-Bombay's board of governors established a 10-member high-level committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and asked Prof Suryanarayana Doolla, accused of abetment, to go on leave. The panel, headed by IIT-Palakkad board chairman Ramesh Venkateswaran, includes faculty members, student representatives, and external experts with instructions to submit a report within a week. Meanwhile, student groups held campus marches and faculty bodies across the country expressed support while urging due process.
