IIT Delhi Forms External Committee to Probe Student Suicide

IIT Delhi has established a final external inquiry committee to investigate the death of 31-year-old physics student Rishikesh Kumar, who died on August 22. The panel is chaired by retired Delhi High Court judge Justice Mukta Gupta and includes an AIIMS psychiatry expert, four student representatives, and the institute's registrar. The committee is tasked with reviewing existing support protocols and recommending measures to improve student welfare, with a report expected within two weeks. This move follows student protests demanding an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death. Meanwhile, Cockroach Janata Party founder Dipke has publicly called for a systemic overhaul of the Indian education system to better support student mental health.
