IIT Ropar Launches AVNI App to Teach Children About Agriculture
· Technology · Indian Express, CTV News
IIT Ropar's ANNAM.AI centre has launched a digital learning platform called AVNI to help children learn about plants, crops, and agriculture through everyday surroundings. Developed by Dr Mukesh Saini, the web and mobile application uses artificial intelligence to help children identify fruits, vegetables, spices, and cereals using their smartphone camera. The platform is available in Hindi and English with audio support for younger users, featuring daily challenges, a digital Nature Book, and a Crop Compare tool. The institute states the app is entirely free to access, ad-free, and privacy-focused with a child-safe design. The initiative aims to build foundational agricultural knowledge before students study the subject formally in school.
Why it matters
